Glass Waste

  1. Fill box to around half full
  2. Close box, leave out in hall with Waste Form filled out.

Chemical Waste

  1. Get a waste container from the Chemistry Stockroom, WEL 1.202, talk to Adrian. You can get containers for liquid and for solid wastes.
  2. Fill out a waste tag (available in SER 202) and append it to the bottle.
  3. Fill out a Chemical Request For Disposal Form.
  4. Fax to 512-471-6918 with location of waste (left hood in room blah)
  5. An EHS technician will come pick it up.

Sharps Waste

  1. Contact EHS for an orange bucket...Nena Anderson <nanderson@austin.utexas.edu> is in charge of this.
  2. Fill a container no more than 40 lbs.
  3. Fill out the Request for Disposal Biological Waste and Sharps Form
  4. 1 gal is the smalls and 2 gal is the talls
  5. Fax form to 512-471-6918
  6. An EHS technician will come pick it up and leave a new bucket.

Biological Waste

  1. You must certify the autoclave with a kit provided by Lee.
  2. Place waste in an orange biohazard bag.
  3. Once full, place bag in an autoclave bucket and sterilize as below:
* Pressure: > 15 psi
* Temperature: > 121C
* Time: >30 minutes
Once cooled, place in a black trash bag with a Autoclave Treatment Sticker on outside.

Paper Waste

The General Services - Transportation section of Facilities Services provides the blue trash cans used for paper recycling. They can be reached at 471-5822.
